Power and cooling

The grid can drop. Your servers will not notice.

Power is the reason most of our customers moved in. Every layer below has a twin, so one can be serviced or fail without your rack losing power or getting warm.

01Power path

Two of everything, all the way to the rack.

Industrial standby generator with open panel

Two utility feeds arrive from separate substations. Automatic switchgear moves the load to generators within ten seconds if both fail. Four generators sit in a 2N layout, so any two carry the whole building. Double-conversion UPS units bridge the gap and clean the power.

From there, two separate paths (A and B) run to two power strips in every rack. Dual-corded servers plug into both, so we can service an entire path in daylight without touching your uptime.

02Fuel

Diesel, gas and a little sun.

72 hours of diesel

Two 60,000 litre tanks, tested weekly, topped up under two separate supply contracts with priority delivery.

Gas-ready generators

Two of the four sets can run on piped gas, which cuts cost and smoke when the grid is out for days.

Solar canopy

A 400 kW solar canopy over the car park carries the offices and lighting through the day.

Weekly load tests

Every Tuesday at 10am one generator runs on load for an hour. Customers can watch from the gallery.

03Cooling

Cold aisle in, hot aisle out.

Racks face each other across a contained cold aisle with a roof and doors. Cooling units push air at 22 to 25°C into the aisle; servers pull it through and push warm air into the hot aisle behind, where it returns to the coolers.

We run N+1 cooling units in every hall, so one can be serviced without a rise in temperature. Sensors at the top, middle and bottom of every third rack report every minute.

  • Inlet temperature 22 to 25°C, humidity 40 to 60%
  • Blanking panels fitted free in every empty unit
  • Chilled water loop with two pumps and two chillers

04Efficiency

Less power for cooling means lower bills for you.

Example figures for this demo. PUE is total facility power divided by IT power; 1.0 would be perfect.

05Maintenance

How we look after the plant.

  1. 01

    Weekly

Generator run on load, fuel quality check, battery voltage readings and a walk of every hall.

  2. 02

    Monthly

Thermal camera scan of every power strip and breaker, cooling unit filter changes.

  3. 03

    Quarterly

Full transfer test: we drop the utility feed on purpose and watch everything switch over.

  4. 04

    Yearly

Battery replacement plan, switchgear service by the maker's engineers and an independent audit.

06Questions

Power questions.

Will you tell me before maintenance?

Yes. Planned work on any power path is announced 14 days ahead on the status page and by email. Your other path stays live throughout.

What if my servers have one power supply?

We fit an automatic transfer switch in your rack for ₦85,000 once, so you still get both paths.

How do you bill power?

You commit to a number of kilowatts. If you go above it for three months, we agree a new commitment with you.

Can I see my power draw?

Yes, in the monthly report and live in the customer portal.
