EvermoreVillage, Victoria Island

Senior living on the lagoon, Victoria Island

Your own front door, good company, and care close by.

Forty-two cottages, apartments and care suites set in four acres of garden by the water, with nurses on duty day and night and a dining hall that cooks like home.

An illustrated 3D model of Evermore Village sits here: a round green island on a lagoon with garden cottages around a path, the dining hall and clinic, a bandstand on the green, a lily pond, palm and flame trees. You can change the season and fly the camera to six stops on the tour. Under reduced motion or low-data mode a drawn picture of the village is shown instead.

Take the tour

March and April bring the flame trees into bloom. Mornings on the green start early, before the heat, and the lily pond is at its best.

Welcome

A village, not a ward

Evermore opened in 2014 when Dr Funmilayo Adebayo-Cole could not find a place in Lagos where her own mother would be happy. She wanted somewhere with a garden, proper Nigerian food, a nurse who knew her mother's name and a room full of her own things.

Twelve years on, 86 people live here. Some come for the company and the peace of mind, some because a husband or wife needs more care than can be given at home, some for a few weeks after a hospital stay. All of them have their own front door.

A day at Evermore

Follow the sun across a usual day

  2. Gentle exercise

Chair yoga or a walk around the green with our physio.

  3. Clubs

Gardening, book club, Ludo and draughts, painting or the sewing circle.

  4. Lunch

The main meal of the day, with a choice of two dishes and a light plate.

  5. Rest and visitors

Quiet time in the cottages, tea on the veranda, grandchildren in the garden.

  6. Choir and music

Hymns, highlife and old favourites in the music room.

  7. Supper

Pepper soup, moi moi, yam porridge or something lighter.

Care, honestly

Someone always comes

We care for people as they are. We do not promise outcomes. We promise that when the bell rings, day or night, someone you know will answer it.

    Nurses day and night

Registered nurses on every shift, with carers trained in-house and refreshed every quarter.

  2. 2

Twice a week, and on call. Most residents keep their own family doctor too.

  3. 3

    Physiotherapy on site

Sessions in our therapy room or by the pool, often covered by your HMO.

  4. 4

    Medicines managed

Stored safely, given on time and checked with your pharmacist and family.

Families say

Notes on the board

Mummy has her own garden again. She tells me off for not visiting enough, which is how I know she is happy.

Bisi, example family member

The night nurse called me at two in the morning to say Papa had a fall and was fine, and what they had done. That call is why we chose this place.

Emeka, example family member

I came for three weeks after my hip operation and stayed for the choir. Two years now.

Visit

Come for lunch, any day

Visits are free and take about ninety minutes: a walk round the gardens, a look inside a cottage and a suite, a chat with the head of care, and lunch in the dining hall. Bring whoever will help decide.

5 Lagoon Crescent, Victoria Island, Lagos (example address). Parking inside the gate and a golf buggy from the car park for anyone who would rather not walk.

Come for lunch and see for yourself

Most families decide after one visit. Walk the gardens, meet the nurses, sit in a cottage and stay for lunch in the dining hall. It is free, and there is no pressure.
