Under the street
The city you never see.
The best infrastructure is the kind you forget about. Here is what runs under Novaterra's streets, how it is backed up, and how you can check on it from your phone.

The systems
System 01
Power
Two gas turbines and 6 MW of solar feed one microgrid, with a battery store that covers the switch between sources in under a second. The national grid is a third backup, not the first. Each home has a smart meter, and you see your use by the hour in the app.
System 02
Water
Groundwater is treated on site through sand filters, membranes and UV, then stored in sealed tanks. Pressure is held steady by variable-speed pumps. Weekly test results are published in the app.
System 03
Fibre and data
A shared duct under every street carries fibre, power and water meters' data. Access chambers sit every 60 metres, so new cables are pulled through, never dug in. Three internet providers will sell service on the ring.
System 04
Moving around
Electric shuttles run the ring road every six minutes and out to Falomo, Victoria Island and the Lekki link bridge every 12. A water taxi runs from The Marina. Streets inside each district are for walking and cycling first.
System 05
Safety and security
One secure boundary, cameras on every shared street and a control room that also watches the power and water systems. Residents let guests in with a one-time pass from the app.
The resident app
Every system, one screen
Use
Power and water by the hour, with a monthly bill forecast.
Guests
One-time passes for visitors and deliveries.
Faults
Report a fault with a photo and track the fix.
Bookings
Shuttle seats, rooms, courts and the events lawn.
Questions
About the systems
What happens if the gas supply stops?
The solar array and batteries carry essential loads, and the national grid connection picks up the rest. Each source alone can keep the lifts, water pumps and security running.
Can I bring my own generator?
No. Generators are not allowed in homes or offices, which keeps the city quiet and the air clean.
Who maintains all of this?
A city operations company owned by the residents' association, with a 25-year contract and published performance targets.
Next step
