After you go home

The first fortnight

Most people recover at home or at a nearby hotel. This is how we stay close.

1
Day one

Nurse call

A nurse phones to ask about pain, eating, walking and your dressing.

3
Day three

Second call or visit

A home or hotel visit if you are within 30 minutes of Effurun, a video call if not.

7
Day seven

Dressing clinic

Stitches, drains or dressings checked at the clinic, usually by your surgeon.

14
Day fourteen

Check-in

A coordinator checks you have what you need and books your six-week review.

Coming from afar

Staying near Effurun

Warri airport is about 20 minutes from the clinic, and a driver can meet you. For larger operations we suggest staying nearby for seven to ten nights, so your first dressing check is easy and help is close.

Coordinators keep a short list of quiet guesthouses and serviced flats within fifteen minutes, all with backup power, and can book a night nurse to visit you there.

  • Airport driver, N25,000 each way (example)
  • Night nurse at your hotel, N60,000 a night (example)
  • Extra suite nights, N95,000 a night (example)

What to pack

A short list

Bring less than you think. We provide garments, dressings and toiletries.

Clothes

Loose front-opening tops, soft trousers, flat slip-on shoes.

Medicines

Your usual tablets in their boxes, and a written list.

Comfort

A long phone charger, a book, a small pillow for the car.

A companion

Someone to collect you and stay the first night at home.

The aftercare garden

Room to walk

Early walking helps prevent clots and lifts the mood. The garden path is level, shaded and lit at night, with benches every twenty metres and a nurse never far away.

Family can visit from 10 am to 7 pm, two at a time, and children are welcome in the garden.

Questions

About recovery

How much pain should I expect?

It varies by operation and by person. You go home with pain relief and a written plan, and the nurse line can help adjust it.

Can my companion stay overnight?

Yes, in the reclining chair in your suite, with meals included.

When can I drive?

Usually after one to two weeks for smaller operations and four weeks after larger ones, once you can brake hard without pain.

What if I am worried at night?

Call the nurse line on your card. If you are in a suite, press the call bell.

Begin with a conversation, not a commitment

Plan your journey online in three minutes, then book an hour with a consultant surgeon. The N50,000 consultation fee is credited to your procedure if you go ahead, and there is never pressure to.
