Short notes
From the nurses’ desk
Quick answers we give most weeks.
Sleeping after eyelid surgery
Two pillows and a travel pillow for the first five nights keep swelling down. Cold compresses for ten minutes every hour while awake.
Garments in the heat
Wear a thin cotton vest under your garment, and ask for a second garment so one can be washed. Air conditioning at night helps.
Eating well to heal
Beans, eggs, fish and moi moi are all good protein. Go easy on pepper for the first few days if you feel sick.
When to call us
Fever, one leg swelling, sudden pain or bleeding through a dressing. Call the nurse line straight away, day or night.
Sun on new scars
Cover scars or use a high sunscreen for a year. Sun can darken a healing scar on deeper skin for good.
Going back to work
Ask for a sick note at your one-week visit if you need one. Desk work usually comes before lifting work.
Reading list
Before your consultation
Patients tell us three things help most: reading the page for your area, writing down your questions, and using the journey planner so the dates do not surprise you.
Ask a question
Write to the journal
