The goal planner

Turn a goal into a monthly number

Choose a goal, set the amount in today's money and the years to get there. The planner adds inflation, counts what you already have and shows the monthly saving at three example rates.

    My plan

Add goals from the left to build one monthly total.

Example rates for illustration only. They are not promised returns: investments can fall as well as rise, and past performance is not a guide to the future.

      How the planner works

      The assumptions, in the open

Planning is only as honest as its assumptions, so here they are.

      Inflation first

Your goal is grown by the inflation assumption each year, so N30m today might mean N69m in six years at 15%.

      Monthly compounding

Savings are assumed to go in monthly and grow at the example annual rate, compounded monthly.

      A range, not a line

The shaded band shows outcomes four points above and below the example rate. Real results can fall outside it.

      Questions

      About the planner

Are these rates what I will earn?

No. They are example rates used to illustrate planning. Your actual returns will differ, and investments can lose value.

Why is the future goal so large?

Because of inflation. At 15% a year prices double roughly every five years. Planning in future naira avoids nasty surprises.

      Is my data saved?

No. The planner runs in your browser and keeps nothing once you leave the page, unless you choose to send it to us.

      Can I plan in dollars?

Use the school fees abroad calculator for dollar costs. In your review we plan naira and dollar goals together.
