What goes into our bedtime teas

Bush mint, dried orange peel and lemongrass: the blends behind the evening tea tray.

By the Tranquil Bay team, 5 minute read

A ceramic teapot on a wooden tray

Every evening at turndown, a small pot of tea is left in each room. Guests ask about it more than almost anything else. Here is what goes in, and why we chose it. These are traditional blends for taste and ritual; we make no health claims for them.

Bush mint and orange peel

Our main evening blend is bush mint from the herb garden with orange peel dried on racks in the sun. It is soft, a little sweet and has no caffeine.

Lemongrass

Lemongrass grows in thick clumps along every path here. Picked in the afternoon and steeped for five minutes, it gives a clean, bright cup that many guests drink iced in the day and warm at night.

We wanted the last thing you taste each night to come from the garden outside your door.

Hibiscus and ginger

Zobo is usually a party drink, sweet and cold. We brew a gentler version with ginger and no added sugar, served warm on cooler harmattan evenings.

How to make it at home

Two teaspoons of dried leaves per cup, water just off the boil, five minutes under a lid. Tins of the evening blend are ₦8,500 at the spa desk and are included in every Rest and sleep retreat.
