Safety
Everyone goes home, every day
Safety at Greystone is a set of habits run on every site, every shift, and checked by people who can stop any job.
Our promise
Any worker can stop any job
If something looks unsafe, the newest labourer on site can stop the work. Nobody is ever punished for stopping a job, and the site manager has to sort the problem before work restarts.
Our safety system is audited by an independent firm twice a year. Results go to the board and to every client in their monthly report.
On every site
Habits we never skip
Full kit, every time
Hard hat, boots, vest and gloves issued free, replaced free, and worn by visitors too.
Morning toolbox talk
Ten minutes at 7.30am on the day's risks, in English, Pidgin, Yoruba or Hausa.
Lift plans
Every crane lift has a written plan, a trained banksman and an exclusion zone.
Safe power
Solar hybrid site power with earth leakage protection and locked distribution boards.
Water and rest
Free clean drinking water, shaded rest areas and enforced breaks in the hottest hours.
First aid
Trained first aiders on every shift and an ambulance agreement with the nearest hospital.
Training
The Greystone safety passport
Every worker carries a passport card showing their training. Supervisors check it before anyone works at height or near plant.
| Course | Who | Length |
|---|---|---|
| Site induction | Everyone, including visitors staying over 2 hours | 2 hours |
| Working at height | Scaffolders, steel fixers, roofers | 2 days |
| Plant operation | Operators, by machine type | 3 to 10 days |
| Supervisor safety leadership | Foremen and site engineers | 4 days |
| Fire marshal and first aid | Two per shift per site | 3 days |
