How to read a carpet from the back
Turn a carpet over and it tells you how it was made, how fine it is, and sometimes how old. Here is what to look for.
Care 6 minute read
Carpets, humidity and the Lagos rainy season
Wool loves a humid city more than you might think. Three habits keep moth and mildew away through the wettest months.

Buying your first heirloom
A young couple in Lekki, a budget of four million naira, and how they found the carpet they intend to hand on.
Scene 02Quick tips
Five things we say every day
- 01
Vacuum without the brush bar
A rotating brush pulls at knots. Use suction only, or a soft floor head.
- 02
Blot, never rub
Rubbing pushes spills deeper. Blot with a clean white cloth, from the outside in.
- 03
Turn it twice a year
Sun and footsteps are uneven. Turning keeps the wear and fading even.
- 04
Use an underlay
It stops slipping, softens the step and protects the back from tiles.
- 05
Wash every two to three years
Grit in the pile wears the wool. A proper wash adds years.

Learn on the floor
On the first Saturday of every month we run a free one hour session in the gallery: how to tell hand-knotted from machine-made, how to read a knot count, and how to look after the carpet you already have. Tea and chin chin provided. Places for twelve.
See it on your own floor
Book a home trial and we bring up to three carpets to your home in Ikoyi, Lekki, Victoria Island or Banana Island, lay them, and leave the one you love.
