The story of Heriz sunrise
Heriz carpets are woven with a coarse, very strong knot and thick wool, and the drawing is angular because the weavers work from memory rather than from a paper plan. That boldness is why they suit large rooms with big furniture, and why designers often pair them with very modern sofas.
This one dates from about 1965. The rust field has mellowed and the indigo has turned a soft ink blue in places. The pile is low but even, which is exactly what you want: a Heriz improves with wear for decades.

It can take traffic. Vacuum weekly with the brush bar off, and keep it out of direct sun from west facing windows.

Why is the drawing not perfectly symmetrical?
Heriz weavers work from memory, so small changes creep in. Collectors prize them as the mark of a hand-made piece.
Is it suitable with children and pets?
It is one of the toughest carpets we sell. Spills come out easily from thick, oily wool.
Can you shorten it?
We prefer not to cut a vintage carpet. We can suggest another size from the gallery instead.
