Scene 02About this carpet
The story of the Ember medallion
The Ember medallion was woven over sixteen months by a workshop of four sisters we have bought from since 2011. The red comes from madder root, dyed twice to reach that depth, and the indigo border is dyed in small batches, which is why you can see faint bands of lighter and darker blue. Weavers call that variation abrash. We call it the carpet breathing.
The silk is used sparingly, only in the cream outlines and the eight palmettes around the medallion. Underfoot the carpet feels like a firm, dense wool. In the late afternoon, when the light comes in low, the silk catches and the medallion seems to lift off the floor.

Care for this carpet
Turn it end to end every six months so the sun fades it evenly. Vacuum with the brush bar off. Blot spills straight away and call us for anything darker than water.
Your first hand wash in our wash house is free after twelve months. See care and restoration
Will the red run if it gets wet?
No. We test every carpet for colour fastness in the wash house before it is shown, and the Ember was washed twice.
Can it go under a dining table?
It can, though at 250 by 350 cm it is made for a seating area. For dining we suggest leaving 60 cm beyond the chairs.
Is there a matching runner?
The same workshop is weaving an 80 by 300 cm runner in the same palette, due in about five months. Ask us to reserve it.
