The Harmattan kilim

A flatwoven kilim in tangerine, indigo, saffron and cream, with stepped diamonds that read like a desert horizon.

Scene 02About this carpet

The story of the Harmattan kilim

Kilims have no pile. The colour is woven straight through, so they are thin, light, reversible and easy to live with. The Harmattan was woven for us in 2024 after Kelechi brought back photographs of the haze over Kano in January and asked the workshop to find those colours in wool.

It works on a tiled floor, over a larger plain carpet, in a child's room or on a terrace under cover. It weighs about nine kilograms, so you can lift it, shake it and turn it over when one side has seen enough sun.

Care for this carpet

Shake it out once a week. Use the underlay we cut for it on tiles so it does not travel. It can be washed by us in a single day.

Your first hand wash in our wash house is free after twelve months. See care and restoration

Will it slide on tiles?

Not with the natural rubber underlay we include. Without one, any kilim will travel on tiles.

Is it really reversible?

Yes. The back shows the same design with small yarn ends. Turning it doubles its life.

Can it go outside?

Under a covered terrace, yes. Not in direct rain, and bring it in during the wettest weeks.
