Why our towers now run on the sun first
Diesel generators used to keep our sites alive. Today, 70 percent of Pinnacle sites in the south-west start every day on solar (example figure).
The problem with diesel
A tower that runs on a generator needs fuel deliveries, guards and repairs. When fuel prices rise or a delivery truck is stuck in traffic, the site goes quiet and customers lose signal.
Solar first, battery second, generator last
We now design every site to run on solar panels during the day and lithium batteries through the night. Generators stay as a last resort for long rainy spells. The result is fewer outages, quieter sites and lower running costs that help us keep bundle prices steady.
Good neighbours
Quieter sites matter to the families who live beside them. Since the change, noise complaints about our sites in Ogun State have fallen to almost none (example figure), and the landlords who host our sites now get free 5G home internet.
Signal is only useful if it is there when you need it.
