In plain words
A lipid profile measures fats carried in the blood. HDL is often called the protective type and LDL the type doctors watch most closely. Triglycerides rise and fall with what you have eaten, which is why fasting matters.
Your doctor reads these numbers alongside your blood pressure, family history and other risks. On their own they do not say whether you will or will not develop any condition.
Results are reported in mmol/L, the unit most Nigerian doctors use, with mg/dL available on request.

Fasting
10 to 12 hours without food. Water is fine and helps the draw.
Timing
Book a slot before 9am so the fast is not too long.
Medicines
Take your usual medicines unless your doctor says otherwise.
Alcohol
Avoid alcohol for 24 hours before, as it can raise triglycerides.

Your report lists each measurement with a reference range. A value outside the range is flagged H or L. A flag is not a diagnosis; ranges vary with age, sex, pregnancy and other factors, so please discuss results with your doctor.
