Honest limits

What counselling is, and is not

Counselling is a regular, private conversation with a trained person who listens closely and helps you notice patterns, choices and feelings. It can make space for change. It does not promise a particular result, and it is not a replacement for medical care.

If you are under a doctor's care, keep going. With your permission we can work alongside your doctor or psychiatrist. We do not prescribe or sell medicine.

Stillwater is not an emergency service. If you or someone else is in danger right now, call 112.

Daniel never took sides. He just kept asking the question we were avoiding.

Example client, couples sessions

I liked that I could choose a man. I would not have said half of it to anyone else.

Questions

About sessions

How many sessions will I need?

There is no set number. Some people come three times, some for a year. You can stop whenever you choose.

Can I change counsellor?

Yes, at any time and without explaining why. Just tell the front desk.

Do you include faith?

If you would like your faith to be part of the conversation, tell us. If not, it will not be.

Can a teenager come alone?

Young people aged 13 to 17 need a parent or guardian's consent. After the first session they usually talk with the counsellor alone.

No pressure

When you are ready, we are here

Booking takes about three minutes and you can stop at any point. You do not need a referral or a reason that sounds big enough.
