The story of Garden of four rivers
Garden carpets draw a walled garden seen from above: four channels of water meeting at a central pool, with trees and flowers in the beds between. This one was woven in about 1978 and came to us from a family in Kaduna who had it in their dining room for thirty years.
Because the design is a grid, it sits beautifully under a rectangular dining table. Each place setting has its own compartment. The ivory has softened to the colour of good parchment, and the greens are deep and calm. We rebuilt both fringes and rewove a small section of one border on our bench.
