Planning questions
Before you choose hours
How many hours do most families start with?
Many start with four hours, five mornings a week, covering washing, breakfast, medication prompts and company. It is easier to add hours than to take them away.
When is live-in care better value?
Once daytime visits pass about eight hours a day, six or seven days a week, a live-in caregiver usually costs less. The fees page has a comparison tool.
Does the caregiver need a room?
For live-in care, yes: a private room with a bed and a place to keep belongings, and meals or a food allowance agreed with the family.
Can we change the plan later?
Yes, with a week of notice for most changes. Short-term extra hours, for example during a family wedding, can often be arranged within two days.
Talk the plan through with a nurse
A senior nurse comes to the home, meets the person you care for and the family, and talks through what would help. There is no charge within Uyo and no obligation.
