Notes from the cold side

Short pieces from our controllers, engineers and customers on keeping things cold in Nigeria, with what we have learnt the hard way.

Quick notes

From the control room

Why 5 am

A van leaving Ilorin at 5 am meets less heat on the Oyo road and arrives before Lagos traffic builds. Cooling units work less, and readings stay steadier.

Phase-change packs, not ice

Ice holds 0 °C, which is too cold for most vaccines. Packs that melt at 5 °C keep boxes in the middle of the band.

Short doors

Half of all excursions start with a door left open too long. We time every opening and coach loaders weekly.
