Why your numbers matter
High blood pressure and high blood sugar often have no signs at all. Many people only find out when they feel unwell, which is why a simple check once a year makes a real difference to how early you can act.
Every Meridian plan includes a free blood pressure and sugar check each year at any network clinic.
Blood pressure, in plain words
Blood pressure is written as two numbers, such as 120 over 80. The first is the pressure when your heart beats, the second when it rests. Your nurse will tell you what your numbers mean for you, because the right range can depend on your age and health.
One high reading is not a diagnosis. Your nurse will usually check again on another day.
Blood sugar
A blood sugar test can be a quick finger prick or a blood test at a lab. Some tests need you to fast overnight. Your clinic will tell you how to prepare.
If your results are high, a Meridian doctor will talk you through the next steps, which may include more tests, changes to food and activity, and regular reviews.
Small changes that help
Walking most days, eating less salt and fewer sugary drinks, sleeping enough and keeping stress in check all help. You do not need to change everything at once. Pick one thing and keep it for a month.
Our free Saturday walk and stretch groups are a friendly place to start.
Staying on track
If you have a long-term condition, Silver, Gold and Senior members get a review with the same nurse every three months, refill reminders and monthly delivery of medicines on the plan list. We do not promise outcomes, but we make it easier to keep going.
Talk to a doctor
If you are worried, book a video consultation. It is covered on every plan.
