Steel building estimator
Set the size of your building and the finishes you want. You get steel tonnage, an example price range, a build time and a drawing of the frame, updated as you go.
How it works
Where the numbers come from
Steel weight
We start from the weight per square metre of our last forty buildings, then add for longer spans, taller eaves and wider frame spacing. Real designs usually land within 10%.
Example rates
Fabricated steel at ₦2.35m per tonne, erection at ₦320k per tonne, roof sheets from ₦9,600 per square metre and wall cladding at ₦8,200 per square metre.
What is not included
Foundations, floor slab, doors, electrics and planning fees. We can recommend trusted builders for the concrete work.
Saving steel
Three ways to bring the number down
- Frame spacing of 6 metres is usually the sweet spot. Wider spacing needs heavier purlins.
- Every metre of eaves height you do not need saves around 3% of the steel.
- If you can live with one row of columns down the middle, a 36 metre building can use 25% less steel.
An estimator will look at your use of the building and suggest the leanest frame that still does the job.
Questions
About the estimate
How accurate is this?
For a standard building it is usually within 10% of our final quote. Unusual loads, cranes, poor soil or a hard-to-reach site can move it further.
Why do prices change?
Steel is bought in dollars by the mills. We hold a written quote for 14 days and buy your steel the week you approve drawings.
Is my estimate saved?
The figures stay in this browser so the quote form can fill in your size for you. Nothing is sent until you submit the form.
