How we coach

The Crown Courts method

Five ideas every coach on the team agrees on.

  1. 01

    Play first

Every session ends in points. Tennis is learnt by playing it.

  2. 02

    One thing at a time

A single focus per session, repeated until it sticks.

  3. 03

    Show, then say

Video on the tablet beats a long speech.

  4. 04

    Praise effort

Players who try new shots lose a few points first. That is fine.

  5. 05

    Parents are partners

Short written notes each term and a coach who answers WhatsApp.

Safeguarding trained

Every coach completes safeguarding training each year and a background check.

Licensed coaches

Coaching licences at level 2 or above from the national federation.

First aid on court

First aid kits and an ice box by every court.

Learning together

One morning a month the coaches train each other.

Femi fixed a serve I had hit badly for twenty years in three lessons. He made it simple.
