Curriculum

Montessori, and the Nigerian curriculum too

Our Elementary classes follow the Montessori curriculum, mapped against the Nigerian national curriculum so that children moving on to secondary school have covered everything expected, and usually more.

English is the language of the classroom. Children also sing, count and greet in Ibibio and learn French from Lower Elementary. Christian and Islamic religious studies are taught respectfully, by parents' choice.

Questions

About programmes

Why mixed ages?

Younger children watch and copy older ones. Older children teach, which is the best way to learn.

Do children write exams?

Upper Elementary children practise exam style papers in their final year so they feel ready for secondary school entrance tests.

Is there homework?

Reading every evening. Elementary children also have a small weekly project.
