Sensorial

Cylinders, colour tablets and the pink tower train the eye, hand and mind to notice differences.

Language

Sandpaper letters, the moveable alphabet and lots of conversation and stories.

Maths

Number rods, golden beads and spindle boxes make quantity something you can hold.

Culture

Maps, flags, plants, animals, art and music from Akwa Ibom and the world.

Reading and writing

How children learn to read here

Children trace sandpaper letters while saying the sounds, so the shape and the sound go in together. Then they build words with the moveable alphabet before they can even hold a pencil well. Writing often comes before reading.

By the end of Children's House most children read simple books and write short sentences. Some get there sooner, some later, and both are fine. We tell you exactly where your child is each term.

Questions

Parents ask

Is my child too young to read?

Many children are ready from four. We never push, we offer when they show interest.

Do children only play?

Montessori work looks like play because children enjoy it, but every material teaches something specific.

Can my child stay for the after-school club?

Yes, until 5pm, with snacks and outdoor time.
