How it is made
Hand-dyed silk twill from Abeokuta indigo workshops.
We buy plain silk in Lagos and send it to two family workshops in Abeokuta, where it is folded, tied and dyed in indigo vats. Each length comes back with its own pattern. In the studio we cut the cape so the strongest part of the pattern falls across the back, then line it in mint silk so it flashes when you turn.
Every piece carries a woven label with the initials of the person who finished it and the date it left the studio.

Questions about this look
Will the indigo run?
The silk is washed three times after dyeing. Dry clean it and keep it away from white silk for the first few wears.
Can I choose my pattern?
Visit the studio and choose from the capes in stock, or order a length dyed for you in three weeks.
Is there a men’s version?
Our menswear team cuts an adire kaftan from the same cloth, from ₦360,000.
