Quay 4: dry bulk and break bulk
Wheat, clinker, fertiliser, sugar and steel, discharged by grab, hopper and conveyor into covered sheds.
- Quay
- 420 m
- Sheds
- 220,000 t
- Discharge
- 18,000 t a day
Quay 4 handles cargo that does not travel in boxes. Bulk carriers up to 80,000 tonnes discharge wheat, clinker and fertiliser by grab into mobile hoppers, which feed trucks or conveyors to the covered sheds.
Break bulk such as steel coils, pipes and project cargo is lifted by two mobile harbour cranes of 140 tonnes each, then stored on a hard standing with a dedicated lay down area.
Dust is controlled with covered conveyors, misting at the hoppers and swept roads. Trucks are weighed in and out on four weighbridges.
