A cleaner port, honestly measured
Electric cranes, shore power, fewer idling trucks and a lagoon we share with the fishing communities of Lekki.
- Electric cranes
- 100%
- Truck idling
- 61% down
- Mangroves planted
- 38 ha
The biggest change at Aquila is invisible: trucks no longer wait. Before appointments, trucks for a Lagos port could idle for a day on the approach road. At Aquila, booked trucks are in and out in eighteen minutes on average, which cut idling emissions by an estimated 61%.
All ship to shore cranes are electric, and the yard gantries run on hybrid power. Two berths have shore power, so ships can switch off their engines alongside. We are working with the lines to raise the share of ships that use it.
Along the lagoon edge we have planted 38 hectares of mangroves with local fishing cooperatives, who also monitor water quality with us every week. Figures are examples for this demo.
Honest gaps
What we have not fixed yet
- Most ships still run engines alongside; shore power use is 14% of calls.
- Yard lighting is bright at night for nearby homes. Shielded fittings arrive in 2027.
- Bulk dust on windy days at Quay 4 still exceeds our own target twice a month.
