Less carbon in every bag, honestly counted
Cement is one of the hardest materials to make cleanly. Here is what we have done at Moniya, what it has achieved, and what we have not yet solved.
What we changed
Four levers
Each one is measured monthly. Figures are examples for this demo.
Less clinker per bag
Clinker is where most of the carbon is. Adding ground limestone in the right grades keeps strength while cutting clinker by eight points.
Biomass in the kiln
Palm kernel shells from Oyo State mills now supply 11% of kiln heat, replacing gas and paying local processors.
Closed water circuit
Cooling water is recycled, and yard runoff passes through settling ponds before reuse.
Fewer empty trucks
Dispatch pairs deliveries with return loads of gypsum and shells, cutting empty kilometres by a fifth.
Quarry restoration
The old face is becoming a forest
Worked out benches at Moniya are backfilled, topsoiled and planted with native species chosen with a forestry lecturer from Ibadan. Forty one hectares are planted so far.
We also fund two community boreholes and a primary school science lab in Moniya, chosen by the community leaders' council.
Honest gaps
What we have not solved yet
We would rather say it than have you find it.
- Kiln carbon dioxide from limestone itself cannot be removed by fuel switching. Carbon capture is not affordable at our scale yet.
- Dust on the Moniya access road in the dry season still troubles neighbours. Road paving is funded for 2027.
- Most of our trucks still run on diesel. We are trialling two gas trucks on the Bodija route.

Is lower clinker cement weaker?
Not when designed properly. Our 32.5N and Blockmaster carry more limestone, and both meet their strength class.
Can I get carbon figures for my project?
Yes. The customer area can produce a carbon statement per order on request.
Who checks your figures?
An independent verifier audits the plant every year. A summary report is available from the contact page.
