Drilling
Borehole drilling
Survey led drilling through Kano's soils and basement rock, finished with casing, screen, gravel pack and a pumping test so you know exactly what the borehole gives.
Inside a borehole
What goes into the ground
Select a part on the drawing or in the list. Depths are typical for a home borehole in Kano's basement rock areas.

How a borehole is built
Tap or click a numbered point to see what each part does and how deep it sits.
Ground
Kano ground is not all the same
The north and east of the state sit on sediments with water at shallower depths. The south and west are on hard basement rock where water lives in fractures.
| Ground type | Typical areas | Usual depth | Method | Yield |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Sedimentary | Northern and eastern LGAs | 40 to 70 m | Mud rotary | Often high |
| Weathered basement | Kano city and Nassarawa | 60 to 90 m | Rotary then hammer | Moderate |
| Fresh basement rock | Southern and western LGAs | 80 to 150 m | Down the hole hammer | Varies with fractures |
General guide for this demo. Your survey sets the depth for your plot.
Included
What your drilling price covers
- Rig and crew mobilisation within Kano metropolis
- Drilling to the agreed depth and up to 10 m extra if water demands it
- uPVC casing, slotted screen and graded gravel pack
- Sanitary grout seal and a concrete apron at the head
- Development and a 6 hour pumping test
- Drilling log and test report signed by our engineer
Pump, tank and treatment are priced separately, see the pricing guide.
The dry hole promise
If a surveyed borehole gives less than 500 litres an hour, you pay only for the survey and mobilisation, not the drilling metres.

Talk to an engineerA 3.5 m wide gate and a clear area of about 10 by 15 m. We can drill in tighter spaces with our compact rig at extra cost.
Yes, for one to three days during daylight. We tell your neighbours the day before.
We keep drilling below the dry season level so the borehole lasts through harmattan, as agreed in your quote.
Some areas need a drilling notice to the state water authority. We file it for you and include the fee in your quote.

A geophysical survey costs ₦85,000 and is deducted from your drilling price if you go ahead.
