The brief
Students, hostels and no signal at night
Two operators shared one problem: dropped calls and slow data around the university after 6pm, when every hostel came online at once. Each had a search ring that overlapped the other’s.
We found three plots that served both rings, agreed leases with nine families, and designed every tower for four tenants from the start. Foundations were poured in the dry weeks of January, and steel went up in February.
Both operators went live on the same day, on solar hybrid power, with fibre at two of the three sites.
We expected to compete for plots. Vertex found sites that worked for both of us, and we shared the cost of every metre.
Timeline
How it went
Weeks 1 to 3
Candidate plots and family meetings in Ugbowo and Uselu.
Weeks 3 to 7
Leases signed, planning and aviation approvals.
Weeks 7 to 11
Foundations, fences and access roads.
Weeks 11 to 14
Steel, solar, fibre and joint handover.

About this project
Why not one tall tower?
Hostel blocks shadow the signal. Three medium towers gave better coverage than one tall one.
Are there spare slots?
Yes. Check BEN-003 and BEN-004 on the site map.
