Case study
Counting a quarry from the sky
Effiong, chief pilot
A quarry near Akamkpa wanted to know how much granite sat in its stockpiles at the end of each month, without stopping the loaders. We fly the yard at 7am every last Friday, before the trucks arrive.
Six control points stay fixed on concrete pillars, so each month's model lines up with the last. The volumes come out per pile, per grade, in a short PDF the owner reads on his phone.
Over a year the drone counts matched the weighbridge within two percent, and the company found one pile that had been double counted for months.
The first month paid for the whole year of flights.
