Exhibitions and displays

Two ticketed exhibitions a year, collection displays that change every spring, and a print room that rests its works every three months.

How we plan a season

Two years ahead

Big shows are planned two years out, because loans of cloth and paintings from families and other collections take time, and some works need conservation before they travel.

One room for the new

Room 5 always shows living artists. Half of its shows come from an open call, judged by a panel that changes every year and includes one artist from outside Nigeria.

Rest for the fragile

Cloth and paper fade in light, so they are shown for three to six months and then rested in the dark store for at least three years.

Exhibition questions

Do I need a separate ticket?

Only for Indigo and New hands. Collection displays and the print room are included with general admission.

Can I lend a work?

Yes. Families lend cloth and paintings for most shows. Write to the curators through the contact page with a photograph.

Are there tours of each show?

Curator's walks run twice a month for ticketed shows. See the events calendar.

Stop press

Timed tickets keep the cloth rooms calm. Weekend slots go first.
