Our story

A university that knows your name

Oakhurst began in 1998 with 312 business students and one promise: teach every student as a person. Twenty-eight years later we teach 9,400, and the promise has not changed.

Who we are

Heritage in the walls, ambition in the classrooms

Oakhurst is a private, non-profit university licensed to award degrees. Our campus in Maitama sits behind a single gate, with the clock tower, library and quad at its heart and the halls of residence a short walk away.

We keep classes small enough that lecturers know who is struggling and who is ready for more. Our average class at 300 level has 34 students, and every school runs a weekly clinic where students can bring any question.

Parents tell us they choose Oakhurst because they can see what they are paying for: a calendar that holds, fees published in full and a portal that shows results, attendance and receipts in one place.

What we stand for

Four commitments we report on every year

Each commitment has a number attached in our annual report to parents, so you can hold us to it.

Care you can see

Every student has a personal tutor who meets them twice a semester and answers parents within two working days.

Fair examinations

Anonymous marking, external examiners from three universities and results published on the same day for everyone.

Rooted in Abuja, open to the world

Students from 31 states and nine countries, with exchange places in Accra, Nairobi and Kigali.

A campus that lasts

Solar power, rainwater harvesting and 2,000 trees planted since 2015 across the Maitama grounds.

Accreditation and governance

Licensed, accredited and audited

All undergraduate programmes hold full accreditation from the national universities regulator, and professional programmes carry the approval of their councils for nursing, law, accounting and architecture.

A Board of Trustees appoints the Governing Council, which includes two elected staff members, a student representative and an independent audit chair. Accounts are audited every year and published in summary to families.

Our city

Maitama: quiet streets, a capital at the door

Our campus sits in one of Abuja's calmest districts, close to embassies, hospitals and the city's business corridors. Internships with ministries, banks, law firms and tech companies are a short shuttle ride away.

Students from outside Abuja arrive at the airport or the Kubwa rail station, and our welcome team runs pickups on resumption weekend.
