Why we start the day with breath, not coffee
Our mornings begin with ten minutes of slow breathing on the lawn. Guests often ask why, and whether they can keep it up at home.

What we do on the lawn
At 6.30am, before breakfast and before phones, guests gather on the lawn for ten minutes of slow breathing. Nothing complicated: sitting comfortably, breathing in through the nose for four counts and out for six.
Why not coffee first
We love coffee. But many guests arrive used to starting the day in a rush: alarm, phone, coffee, traffic. Ten minutes of slow breathing first gives the morning a different first note. Coffee still comes, at breakfast, and tastes better for the wait.
What guests tell us
Most say they feel calmer and more awake by the end of the ten minutes. Some say nothing changes on day one, and a lot on day three. We never promise a result. It is simply a calm way to begin.
Rest is not a reward for finishing everything. It is part of how anything gets finished.
Doing it at home
Pick a spot you will see every morning: a chair by a window, the edge of your bed, the car before you start the engine. Set a timer for five minutes to begin. If your mind wanders to the school run or the generator, notice it, and come back to counting.
When to be careful
If you feel dizzy, slow down or stop and breathe normally. People with breathing or heart conditions should check with their doctor first.
