About Halcyon
A family garden that learned to look after people
Halcyon began as a house with a large garden where friends came to stretch, eat and sleep. It grew slowly, and on purpose, into a twenty two room retreat that still feels like somebody's home.
Our story
Why a retreat in the middle of Abuja
Our founder, Mrs Halima Danjuma (an example name for this demo), spent twenty years in banking in Lagos and Abuja. The holidays that helped most were never the busy ones. They were quiet weeks with early nights, good food and long walks, usually far from home and expensive to reach.
Halcyon is the answer close to home: a place you can reach in thirty five minutes from the airport, where the gate closes behind you and the city goes quiet. No conferences, no weddings, no loud music by the pool. Just rest, done properly.
We keep it small. With twenty two rooms, our hosts know every guest by name by the second morning, and the kitchen knows who takes pepper and who does not.
Values
What we hold on to
- 01
Rest is the work
We do not fill your days. The quiet between sessions is where most guests say the change happens.
- 02
Honest care
We support rest and habits. We never promise cures and we will always point you to your doctor when that is the right call.
- 03
Nigerian hospitality, slowed down
Warm welcomes, good food and people who notice. Without the pressure of a busy hotel.
- 04
Light on the land
Solar power, rainwater for the garden, local growers and almost no single use plastic.
The grounds
Four acres, behind a high wall
The garden is laid out as a loop, so you can walk for twenty minutes without seeing the same corner twice. Neem and mango trees shade the paths, and the kitchen garden grows the herbs, peppers, lemongrass and scent leaf that end up in your lunch and your tea.
Rooms sit along the garden edge, the courtyard is the warm heart, and the pools and steam room are tucked at the far end where it is quietest. The studio faces east for sunrise sessions.
- Wheelchair friendly main paths
- Shaded seating every 50 metres
- Mosquito treated weekly
- Quiet hours 10pm to 7am
How we grew
Slowly, one room at a time
- 2017
A family house with a big garden in Asokoro becomes a weekend yoga space for friends.
- 2019
Six guest rooms open, with a small kitchen and one massage room.
- 2021
The steam room, plunge pool and solar plant are built. We go fully off-grid in the daytime.
- 2023
Courtyard suites and the open kitchen open. The first Renew week runs in March.
- 2026
Twenty two rooms, eighteen practitioners and the retreat builder online.
We wanted a place where a tired person could arrive on a Friday and leave on Sunday feeling like themselves again. Everything else follows from that.
