Even light, no dark corners
The old lamps lit the centre of each pitch well and left the corners dim. The new fittings are aimed in a grid, so the light at the corner flag is almost the same as at the centre spot.
Half the power
The LEDs use about half the energy of the old lamps, which means the solar and battery plant now carries the lights until about 9pm on a sunny day.
The first Friday under the new lights, three captains came to the desk to say thank you. That never happens.
Instant on
No more ten minute warm up. If a storm passes and the power blinks, the lights are back in a second.
What it means for bookings
Floodlit prices stay the same this season. More evening slots open on the tennis courts, with the last booking now at 10pm.
