Chapter IIIGrades

Three grades of print, and how to tell them apart.

Price follows weight, dye depth and finish. Hold a corner up to the light: a good wax print looks the same on both sides.

Grade one

Everyday cotton wax

Light, breathable and easy for any tailor. The print sits clearly on the front and softer on the back.

  • Good for school, office and family outings
  • Softens after the first wash
  • Holds colour with cold hand washing

From ₦3,800 a yard

Grade two

Heavy wax

A firmer hand and deeper colour on both sides. Holds structured styles such as peplums and wide sleeves.

  • Good for owambe and church anniversaries
  • Stands up to ironing
  • Less see through in bright sun

From ₦4,800 a yard

Grade three

Premium wax

Crackle lines, satin finishes and the richest dye. These come in small batches and rarely return.

  • Good for traditional marriages and naming days
  • Pairs well with lace and George
  • Limited yards per print

From ₦7,500 a yard

Chapter VICare and questions

Keeping prints bright.

  1. Soak before the tailor. A short soak in cold salted water settles loose dye.
  2. Wash cold, inside out. Mild soap, no bleach, no long soaking with whites.
  3. Dry in shade. Strong Uyo sun fades reds and purples quickly.
  4. Iron on the back. Medium heat keeps the wax sheen on the front.
Can I buy less than six yards?

Yes. We cut from one yard on everyday and heavy wax. Premium wax is sold in full pieces when stock is low, and we will say so on the wall.

Will the same print be in stock next month?

Everyday prints usually return. Premium wax often does not. If you need more later, buy it now and keep it.

Do you deliver outside Uyo?

Yes, by park waybill to Eket, Ikot Ekpene, Calabar, Port Harcourt, Aba and Lagos. See the delivery table on the visit page.

Can you recommend a tailor?

We keep a short list of tailors in Ewet Housing, Shelter Afrique and Itu Road who sew our cloth often. Ask at the counter.
