A young woman smiling and looking down

Amina is the third of seven children. Her mother farms maize and sells groundnut oil at the weekly market. When school fees rose in her first year of junior secondary, her father said the money had to go to her brothers.

Her head teacher told our team, and a mentor from the mothers' group visited the family. Seedlight paid her fees, her uniform and her books. Every Wednesday after school, she met her mentor with eleven other girls.

I want to be the teacher who notices the girl at the back of the class.

She passed her final exams with credits in English and mathematics. Now she studies primary education and spends her holidays helping in her old school's reading club.
