About

A lodge built lightly

Mangrove Eco Lodge was started by an Abuja architect who grew up visiting her grandmother on this creek, and wanted to share it without changing it.

Our story

We built on stilts so the tide could keep its path, used reclaimed hardwood from old Calabar warehouses, and hired our team from the village before we laid a single board.

The lodge opened in 2021 with six suites. It is owned by a small Nigerian company, with Okun village holding a share and two seats on the board. Reservations are run from our lounge in Wuse 2, Abuja.

What we promise

Leave it better

Ten percent of room revenue goes to the forest, every year.

No generators

Solar power and batteries, so the nights stay quiet.

Village first

Our team, our food and our boats come from Okun first.

Small on purpose

Twelve rooms. We will not build more.
