The new parking deck, and why the first two hours stay free

Forty more shaded bays on the roof, number plate entry at every gate and a promise we intend to keep.

Last December the car park was full by 11am on three Saturdays in a row. Queues ran back onto Ogui Road and we heard about it, kindly and less kindly, at Guest Services.

So we built up. The new deck adds forty shaded bays above the food hall, with a ramp that keeps cars off the main road while they wait. It opens on 16 November, in time for the lights.

Every gate now reads number plates. There is no ticket to lose, and you can pay by card, transfer or the app as you drive out. If you stay under two hours, the barrier simply lifts.

“We would rather lose a little parking money than see one more car queuing on Ogui Road.”

Mall manager, example quote

Why keep the first two hours free? Because most visits to Crown Mall are short: a weekly shop at Ogui Fresh, a phone repair, a coffee. Charging for those would push people back to the roadside, which is worse for everyone on Ogui Road.

After two hours it costs ₦500 an hour, with a cap of ₦2,500 for the day. Film goers get an extra hour free with their ticket, and the accessible bays are always free.

The green and red bay lights will be fitted to the new deck by Christmas. Until then, marshals in orange vests will wave you to free spaces.
