Novely began as a single shelf in a seaside café, where our founder lent out well-loved paperbacks to anyone who promised to bring them back with a note inside. The shelf became a corner, the corner became a shop, and the shop became the bookstore you are browsing today.
We still work the way we did then. Every book we stock has been read by someone on our team, and every recommendation comes from a real reader rather than an algorithm.
Our editors read hundreds of advance copies each season. A book earns a place on our shelves when it is beautifully written, honest about the human experience and likely to be pressed into a friend's hands. We favour quality over volume and keep our collections small enough to browse with pleasure.
