How we calculate

The numbers behind the numbers

01

Inverter

Running load divided by a power factor of 0.8, plus 25 percent headroom, rounded up to a standard size.

02

Battery

Your daily energy for the backup hours you choose, at 90 percent usable lithium capacity.

03

Solar

Daily energy divided by 4.5 peak sun hours in Owerri and 78 percent system efficiency.

04

Surge

Running load plus twice the largest motor, because fridges, ACs and pumps start hard.

05

Generator

Sized for the surge, not the running load, so it does not stall.

06

Duty cycle

Fridges and ACs cycle on and off, so we count only the time the compressor runs.

Questions

About sizing

Why is my inverter bigger than my load?

Inverters should not run flat out for hours. Headroom keeps them cool and lets motors start without tripping.

Can I run an AC on an inverter?

Yes, with at least 5 kVA and enough battery or solar. Inverter type ACs are much easier to power.

Do I need solar?

Not always. Without solar, the grid or a generator recharges the battery. Solar means you rely on neither.

What about an electric cooker?

Electric cookers and water heaters need very large systems. We usually advise gas for cooking and heating.
