Tips from the bay
Small habits that save tyres.
Two longer guides and the short tips our fitters give at the counter every day.
Your tyre has a birthday. Here is how to find it.
Somewhere on the sidewall is a four digit code that says when your tyre was made. In Warri heat, it matters as much as the tread.
Pothole season: what a bad hit does to your wheels
The rains open up the roads from May. One hard pothole can bend a rim, break the cords inside a tyre and throw your alignment out, all at once.
Counter tips
Six things worth knowing
- Tip 01
Check pressure cold
Before driving, or after the car has stood an hour. Warm tyres read high.
- Tip 02
Use the door sticker
The right pressure is on the driver door frame, not the tyre wall.
- Tip 03
Rotate every 10,000 km
Front tyres wear faster. Rotation evens it out and saves a set.
- Tip 04
New tyres go on the back
If you only buy two, put the newer ones on the rear axle for grip in the wet.
- Tip 05
Mind the load
A full pickup needs higher rear pressure. Check the sticker for loaded figures.
- Tip 06
Keep a gauge
A small gauge costs less than one puncture repair. Forecourt gauges are often wrong.
