Follow the fish from the boat to your pot.
Our whole day hangs on the tide and the traffic. Scroll through it, and order at any point along the way.

The boats come in
Six boats we have bought from for years land at the lagoon jetty before light. We pay on the spot, by transfer, at a fair price the crews agree with. No middlemen, no fish that sat overnight in a cooler at the park.

Sorted on ice
Back at the market every fish is checked by hand, then bedded on crushed ice at one kilo of ice for every kilo of fish. Anything that fails our checks goes to the smoke house or back to the crew.

Two cold box runs a day, timed around Lekki traffic. Order by 9:30am for the morning run and by 1:30pm for the afternoon run.

The smoke house lights up
What is not sold fresh by midday goes to our smoke house behind the market. Slow smoked over wood for six hours, it becomes the bonga and curled catfish that go into ofe, egusi and banga soup across Lagos.
Smoked catfish from ₦3,500 a piece. Bonga from ₦2,500 a pack of five.

I sent my order at 9am and the croaker was in my kitchen in Thomas Estate before 11, scaled and cut for pepper soup.
The board is honest. When the snapper says few left, there really are only a few left. I now order the night before.
Good prawns for my small chops business, weighed in front of me every Friday. Prices are fair for Lekki.
