The solar canopy doubles: 2 MW over the car park
The second phase of the solar canopy is switched on. The campus now runs on sun for most of the working day, and the car park is shaded end to end.

Why build over the car park
Roofs on the campus were already full of plant. The car park was the one big open space, and it baked in the afternoon. Panels on steel frames fixed both problems at once.

What 2 MW means
On a clear day the canopy makes more power than the campus uses between 9am and 3pm. The extra goes into the battery store for the evening.

Less gas, less noise
The gas engines now run mostly after dark. Members in the Foundry say the afternoon hum has gone.

Forty charging points now sit under the panels, free for members until March.
