Where it leads

Careers and next steps

  • Automation technician in a bottling or food plant
  • Maintenance engineer on factory lines
  • Field engineer for equipment suppliers
  • Building management systems technician
  • HND in mechatronics or electrical engineering

“We built a parcel sorting line for our final project. It reads a label, weighs the box and pushes it to one of four chutes. A logistics firm in Ikeja came to see it.”

Work out your total
Do I need to be good at coding?

No experience needed. You learn ladder logic and some Python from the start, with plenty of help.

Is it more mechanical or electrical?

Both, about equally, plus the control code that joins them.

Where do students do SIWES?

Bottling, food and packaging plants, and equipment suppliers around Ikeja, Agbara and Ota. Example partners.

What do I need to bring?

Safety boots and overalls. Everything else is in the workshop.
