I · The story
Ibadan rewards people who slow down. It is a city of hills and brown roofs, old markets and new restaurants, and most visitors only see it from the expressway. Here is how we would spend a weekend.
Start on Friday evening with dinner at the Iroko Room and an early night. On Saturday, go to Bodija market at 8am with our chef, who buys for the kitchen every morning and is happy to explain what everything is.
After breakfast, our driver takes you up to Mapo Hill for the view, then to an adire workshop where you dye a wrapper in indigo. Lunch is amala at a buka the driver swears by.
II · In short
Worth remembering.
Go to the market early
Before 9am it is cooler and calmer.
Book a driver
Traffic on Ring Road is easier with someone who knows it.
Leave Sunday free
The garden is at its best on a quiet Sunday.
III · More
Rest by the pool in the afternoon, then go up Bower’s Tower for sunset. Sunday is for a long breakfast, a massage at Ewe Spa and a slow drive home before the evening traffic on the expressway.
The concierge can book every part of this, including the driver, for about ₦120,000 for the weekend (example rate).
IV · Questions
Guests also ask.
Is a weekend enough?
For a first visit, yes. Most guests come back for longer.
Can children come on the outings?
Yes, and the adire workshop is a favourite with them.
