Journal

Notes from the front desk.

Guides we wish every guest had before they arrived, and short tips we give at check-in. Written by the people who live here.

Quick tips

What we tell guests at check-in

  • 01

    Leaving Lagos

Set off before 6am on a Friday or after 10am on a Saturday. The Sagamu interchange is the slow part.

  • 02

    Cash and cards

POS works at the desk and most shops. Keep some cash for the rock guides and market stalls.

  • 03

    Harmattan months

December to February is dry and dusty. We add humidifiers to rooms on request.

  • 04

    Rainy season

June to September brings heavy afternoon rain. Climb the rock in the morning.

  • 05

    Sunday mornings

Roads are quiet until about 11am, when services end. A good time for a drive around town.

  • 06

    Food to try

Ofada rice with ayamase, and amala with gbegiri and ewedu, both on our kitchen board.

Seasons

When to come

November to February are dry and bright, with cool mornings for the rock. March to May are hot; mornings and evenings are the time to be out. The rains from June soften everything, and the house is quietest then, with the best long-stay rates.

Nov to FebDry and bright. Busiest months.
Mar to MayHot afternoons. Early starts.
Jun to SepRains. Quiet house, best rates.
OctCooling down. Festival season begins.

Ask the desk anything about Abeokuta. If we do not know, we know who does.
