Fit and care

Measure once, wear for years

How to find your size at home with a piece of string, which finish to choose, and how to look after glass, cord and brass.

Measuring at home

The string method

  1. Take a piece of string or a cloth tape measure.
  2. Wrap it where you want the strand to sit, snug but not tight.
  3. Mark the point where the ends meet, then lay it flat against a ruler.
  4. Add 2 cm if you want the strand to sit a little loose.
  5. Send us the number in centimetres or inches on WhatsApp.

For necklaces, measure from the back of the neck to where you want the lowest bead to fall, then double it.

Caring for your beads

Five habits that keep a strand strong

  1. 01

Take strands off for harsh washing

Bleach, strong detergents and chlorinated pools weaken cotton cord. A quick rinse in clean water is fine.

  2. 02

Dry flat, never on a hot surface

Pat dry with a towel and let the strand rest flat in the shade. Heat can soften the cord.

  3. 03

    Store in the pouch

Every piece comes with a cloth pouch. Keeping strands apart stops tangles and scratches on the glass.

  4. 04

    Polish brass gently

Brass findings darken over time. A soft cloth with a little lime juice brings them back.

  5. 05

    Restring every year or two

Cord wears with daily use. Bring it back and we restring our own pieces for ₦1,500.

Repairs

Broken strand, kept beads

If a strand breaks, gather every bead you can find into a small bag and bring it in. We restring our own pieces for ₦1,500 and beads from elsewhere from ₦2,500, usually the same week. Family pieces passed down from mothers and grandmothers are welcome; we handle them slowly and note every bead.

Fit questions

Asked at the table every week

Tie-on or clasp?

Tie-on strands are made to your exact length and are meant to stay on for a long time. A brass clasp lets you take the strand off easily, and costs ₦1,500 more.

What if the strand is too tight?

Bring it back within 14 days and we will add beads free of charge. After that, resizing is ₦1,500.

Can children wear beads?

We make children’s bracelets on soft stretch cord for ages 3 and up. For babies, naming strings are for keeping and display, not for wearing unattended.

Do the colours fade?

Good glass keeps its colour for decades. Painted or coated beads can fade, which is why we do not use them.
