Academics
Clear teaching, high expectations, careful tracking
Our curriculum follows the national framework and goes beyond it. Small classes, specialist teachers and half termly reports mean nobody slips through the cracks.

How we teach
The Ridgemere lesson
- I
Recall
Every lesson starts with five quick questions on earlier work, so knowledge sticks.
- II
Explain
Clear teacher explanation with worked examples, at the board and in books.
- III
Practise
Students try it themselves while the teacher circulates and corrects.
- IV
Check
An exit question shows who has it and who needs help tomorrow.
Computing
Two computer laboratories
Sixty workstations, a coding club four afternoons a week and a robotics team. Every student leaves JSS 3 able to build a simple website and write a short program.
Sciences
Three laboratories
Separate physics, chemistry and biology laboratories with trained technicians. Practical work every week from SSS 1, and a science fair every October.
Library
18,000 books and quiet study rooms
Open from 7am to 9pm for boarders, with a librarian, a reading programme for juniors and silent study rooms for exam classes.

Learning support
Two specialist teachers work with students who need extra help with reading, numeracy or organisation, in small groups or one to one. Parents are involved in every plan, and there is no extra charge.
Stretch and challenge
Our most able students join olympiad squads in mathematics and science, the debating society and the essay prize. Several SSS 3 students each year take university level online courses with a teacher mentor.
