The collection
Notes from the studio.
Zainab Musa grew up watching her aunts embroider caps and kaftans in Kano. Zainab Studio turns that patient handwork into bridal and wedding guest wear for modern ceremonies.
Season 07, called Henna Night, is twelve looks in ivory, gold thread and deep red. Each bridal gown carries around 40 hours of hand embroidery, worked by a team of eight women.
The show ends with a bride and her two friends walking together, in looks that share one embroidered motif.

The atelier
How it is made.
Draw
Motifs drawn on paper, then pricked and chalked onto cloth.
Embroider
Worked by hand in silk and gold thread, about 40 hours a gown.
Assemble
Panels joined and lined, then fitted to the bride.
